HBO TO MAKE BIO PIC ABOUT ANT-GAY ACTIVIST ANITA BRYANT

HBO is developing a biopic of anti-gay activist and beauty queen Anita Bryant, with Sex and the City creator Darren Star attached to direct.

If you saw MILK or have a basic sense of our community history you will be well acquainted with this name: Anita Bryant. For those of you who still have a blank stare... She's the 50's housewife looking mom/loony activist from the late 70's who vehemently opposed gay rights all together.

Here is just one of her many unbelievable quotes, "As a mother, I know that homosexuals cannot biologically reproduce children; therefore, they must recruit our children (ummmmmm........ wow)

Her 'Save Our Children 'coalition recently motivated voters to repeal a Miami-Dade County ordinance prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. By the way, it took 20 years l for the original bill  to be instated.

Bryant's special brand of activism led to a nationwide boycott of orange juice by the gay rights movement. The success of boycott eventually lost her Citrus Commission contract, and her record and book sales fell sharply. Bryant remarried, tried unsuccessfully to revive her singing career and eventually filed for bankruptcy.

Just the way any horror story should end.  We hope it's as good as Grey Gardens.
