According to a new study, young gay men engaging in risky sexual behavior is fueling the HIV epidemic in Europe and the UK. The research monitored newly diagnosed HIV infections in males and females, gay and straight, caucasian and non-caucasian. Those infected, they said, were almost all white, male, gay, and young. The men infected also tended to have other STDs, such as syphilis, suggesting risky sexual behavior.

The president of Montana's Big Sky Tea Party Association has been fired following a Facebook conversation he had that suggested support for violence against homosexuals, and alluded to the gruesome murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student who was killed in 1998. The conversation was posted in response to a lawsuit filed against the state of Montana to secure greater rights for same-sex couples and their families.

In an interview with the Mexican newspaper La Jornada, Fidel Castro accepted responsibility for Cuba's homophobia and persecution of gays and lesbians in the 1960's and 70's. "Those were moments of great injustice", Castro said. "If anyone is responsible, I am." The former leader went on to explain that at the time he was involved in the Cuban Missle Crisis, and unable to address the matter. Cuba now holds official public LGBT events.

Officials at Scandinavian Airlines have announced plans to host the first-ever in-flight gay wedding on December 6th, and is currently searching for the perfect couple to walk down the aisle. The ceremony will be performed in Swedish air space, where gay marriage is legal. The winning couple will receive three nights' luxury accommodation in New York. Australian swimmer Stephanie Rice posted a comment involving the word "faggot" after her country's win over South Africa on Saturday, sparking controversy over the remark and a backlash from the press. Rice removed the comment from her profile and later apologized for the remarks. Jaguar Australia, who has sponsored the swimmer since the beginning of 2010, confirmed they have already terminated their relationship with Rice, and taken back the Jaguar he has been driving. Says a representative from Jaguar, "We wish Stephanie success for the future."
