An look at the LGBT films vying for Newfest@BAM, the best of Newfest

If you're wondering what Johnny Weir, Quentin Crisp and Mr. Right all have in common, look no further than Newfest 2009, the LGBT film festival showcasing the best gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender films and filmmakers from around the world. This year's Newfest award-winners and audience favorites will enjoy a reprise run at Newfest@BAM, (the Brooklyn Academy of Music) on August 29 and 30.

OURsceneTV's Matt Maggiacomo was on the Newfest scene and caught two of this year's winners: "Pop Star on Ice," the profile of figureskating's gay golden boy, Johnny Weir; and "An Englishman in New York," starring John Hurt as Quentin Crisp, the fabulously gay raconteur, writer and toast of New York society. He also couldn't resist  the drama in, "Mr. Right," about a group of gay friends whose summer together tests their friendships, and "Watercolors" a tale of sensitive teenager meets gorgeous, troubled boy from the swim team. Look for a cameo by hunky Olympian, Greg Louganis!
